Must read

Student groups protested in front of Delhi University’s Arts Faculty on Wednesday, expressing solidarity with protesting wrestlers and demanding the immediate arrest of Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The students also demanded Singh’s resignation over allegations of sexual harassment and intimidation of seven women wrestlers, one of whom is a minor. The wrestlers have been staging a sit-in since April 23 and are demanding criminal action against Singh. The protesting students demanded the immediate constitution of an internal complaints committee to ensure that women wrestlers do not face sexual harassment in the future. The police detained some protesters for not seeking permission to hold the protest. The students alleged they were maltreated and forcibly arrested by the Delhi Police. Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik supported the students and condemned the police action. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said that the students did not take permission from the police for the protest, and around 30 were detained. The Delhi Police registered two FIRs against Singh on Friday based on complaints filed by the seven women wrestlers.
