The position requires a mix of tech skills such as AI/ML/NLP, the ability to review and interpret code, and English language skills.

The job role is not restricted to candidates with a computer engineering background. Candidates from the humanities stream with majors in English or history can also use natural language tools. While candidates with experience in programming languages and an understanding of different AI models are desirable, training is often provided on the job.

The rise in demand for prompt engineers is reflected in online learning platforms like Udemy and upGrad, which have seen a 30% increase in enrolment for AI programs in Q4FY23 compared to the previous quarter. The job requires candidates to be creative, precise with language, and understand user personas, needs, and behaviors.
