The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had arrested a scientist working for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for allegedly providing confidential information to a Pakistani agent. The scientist was reportedly in contact with an agent of a “Pakistan Intelligence Operative” through WhatsApp and video calls in what appeared to be a case of honeytrap, according to an ATS official. The accused, who held a senior position in the premier defence research institute, was arrested on Wednesday.

The ATS release stated that the scientist had misused his position and provided the enemy country with details despite being aware that the official secrets in his possession could threaten the country’s security. An offence under the relevant sections of the Official Secrets Act was registered with the Kalachowki unit of the ATS in Mumbai, and further investigation is ongoing.
