Delhi witnesses unusual fog and rain in its otherwise hottest month of May.

Must read

On Thursday morning, residents of Delhi were surprised by an unusual spell of shallow fog. The weather conditions are not typical for May, considered the city’s hottest month of the year, with a mean maximum temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius. Weather department officials have attributed the fog to the high moisture content in the air and a significant difference between the daytime and nighttime temperatures, which create favorable conditions for its formation.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) defines shallow fog as having a visibility range between 501 and 1,000 meters. On Wednesday, Delhi’s primary weather station, the Safdarjung Observatory, recorded 20.9 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm and a maximum temperature of 30.6 degrees Celsius, nine notches below normal.

Furthermore, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 16.9 degrees Celsius at 6 am on Thursday. The IMD has stated that these conditions are uncommon for this time of year and may indicate a shift in weather patterns.
