CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Choudhury launched a strong attack on both the BJP-led central government and regional party Tipra Motha, accusing them of neglecting the struggles of common people.

Organized by the CPI(M) Sonamura Sub-Divisional Committee, the rally served as a build-up to the nationwide general strike on July 9, aimed at highlighting issues like unemployment, inflation, and declining labor rights.

The event began with a large procession of CPI(M) supporters marching through the streets of Sonamura, culminating at Rabindra Chowmuhani, where leaders addressed a sizable crowd.

During his speech, Choudhury criticized the Modi government for painting a false picture of progress abroad while ignoring growing poverty and joblessness within India.

“While the Prime Minister boasts about India’s economic rise during foreign visits, millions at home are jobless, and daily wage workers are struggling to survive,” Choudhury said.

He also targeted Tipra Motha, implying that their regional politics fails to address the broader crises affecting the state’s marginalized groups.

The veteran leader emphasized the importance of the upcoming July 9 Bharat Bandh, calling it a “people’s movement” rather than just a strike.

“This is a message from the streets. People are tired of slogans and silence—they want action,” he added.

In a key political development at the rally, 19 families (totaling 74 voters) from the BJP camp officially joined CPI(M), citing dissatisfaction with the state government’s performance. Choudhury personally welcomed them with party flags, marking a symbolic shift in political allegiance.
